The Importance of Indoor Air Quality for Commercial Building Spaces
Time and time again, we have heard that the air we breathe isn’t as safe as we might think, but is this really true?
There seems to be a sense of paranoia in the idea that the air all around us is harmful, as we all seem to be living fairly content and happy lives, free of problems.
But the truth is that the indoor quality for commercial building spaces isn’t just something we can dismiss because we aren’t seeing problems today.
What’s going to happen in the future?
The truth of the matter is that the indoor air quality for commercial building spaces is actually worse because of how well built the spaces are.
Let’s explain this further. Because we’ve created these nearly airtight structures, we are allowing less circulation of air in our work areas.
And while this might seem like a good protective measure, what it does is keep ‘bad stuff’ inside our offices and around our desks.

Right now, we might not experience anything more than a sniffle on occasion or a general ill feeling at work – but these can be signs that your indoor air quality for commercial building spaces that you are in are not as high as you might think.
Many times, we dismiss our health concerns and give them the benefit of the doubt – it’s just stress, it’s just allergies, it’s just a cold. However, with each new symptom we have, we can see how the building is taking its toll on us.
What’s in your space?
Newer buildings seem to be more at risk for problems than older buildings. The indoor air quality for commercial building spaces is diminished by windows that don’t open to let in new air as well as substandard ventilation systems.
You can also get particulates from the new installation of carpets and flooring. And while separately, these factors may not feel as though they are harmful, put together, they can cause a lot of trouble.
Another concern for the air quality for commercial building is the fact that molds can grow quite easily in areas that don’t receive a lot of circulation – even the newest buildings can suffer from this problem.
The spores are then released into the air for you to breathe, day in and day out. But by recognizing the symptoms, you can suggest that the air be checked for problems and possibly get a healthy solution for everyone in the office.
