What Does a High Indoor Air Quality Measurement Mean to You?

The recent attention given to carbon monoxide and the deaths that have resulted from being exposed to it, you are probably a little more concerned about the air in your home.

Perhaps you might decide to get the air in your home tested to see if there are any high levels of contaminants that might hurt your breathing. If so, what happens when you find out that you have a high indoor air quality measurement?

When high is good

Depending on the company that you have chosen, a high indoor air quality measurement can also mean that you have very clean air, so you’ll want to clarify your results with the company beforehand.

Take the time to sit down with the professional to see what your test results mean. If they are good, you might want to discuss how you can keep them that good. Perhaps you can schedule follow up tests so that you can make sure that problems don’t creep up over time.

Of course, a high indoor air quality measurement may also mean that you have an abnormally high number of particulates in the air and that you might want to take action to clear them away.

However, very high readings may also indicate that the sample of air was tainted or that the reading was inaccurate, so you may want to have the test performed again.

Most companies will allow you to have a follow up testing when the numbers are strangely high – and they should.

    What you need to do

When you have an indoor air quality measurement reading, you need to consider what your options are for cleaning your air.

Larger particulates can be cleaned by simple filtration systems, but things like bacteria and smaller particles will need something more efficient, like a HEPA filter.

The smaller the particles are that you want to clean away, the more expensive the system.

In the end, it’s your choice what you will do to keep a normal indoor air quality measurement and there are plenty of options at your disposal – both for big budget projects and smaller areas.
